Seasonal changes can sometimes be a bit difficult for the skin. In autumn, after the first cold days, wrinkles due to dryness appear more often, the skin begins to tense or has a pale complexion. Let's face it, the cold months of the year are challenging for the skin. Why is that?

  • Declining air humidity indoors : With the cold days outside, the relative humidity inside decreases. This has a direct effect on the skin. It releases more moisture to the outside and dries out.
  • Constricted blood vessels in the skin : When we are outside in the cold, our body focuses on warming up its core. In addition, the blood vessels in the skin constrict, which leads to impaired transport of nutrients and oxygen to the outermost layers of the skin. The skin appears pale and pale.
  • Reduced sebum production in cold weather : Our skin produces its very own cream to keep it supple and elastic: sebum. However, as soon as we are in the cold, sebum production decreases, existing sebum becomes tougher and can no longer cover the surface of the skin as well. The skin loses its own protection and becomes more susceptible to stimuli such as temperature changes or icy winds.

We summarize

In autumn and winter, the skin's moisture content drops, it has less blood supply and produces less sebum. I suspect you can well imagine that this can lead to skin problems , perhaps they are affecting you right now. Two good news: Firstly, your skin adapts to changing circumstances over time. So there's no reason to sit at home all autumn. And secondly, with the right care changes, you can support your skin and significantly reduce the negative effects.

Do I need to change my facial care routine in the fall?

You should change the routine, but not necessarily the products. More on that below. What became clear from the previous sections is that the skin needs more protection. And protection in the form of care comes from lipid-containing products , i.e. facial oils and facial balms.

The fatty acids in these skin flatterers essentially put a winter coat on your skin and ensure:

  • Less moisture loss: The plant oils slightly shield the skin (have an occlusive effect) and prevent your skin from losing moisture to the outside.
  • More lipids for your skin: The fatty acids in plant oils are related to the lipids in your skin. They integrate into your skin barrier and provide suppleness and protection and reduce skin dryness.

The focus of care in the cold winter months is on facial oils, body oils and balms and you should adapt your facial care routine accordingly.

If you already use FIVE products, then you may not even need to buy a new product for fall and you will already know the benefits of combining two products : The richness (i.e. the ratio of oil to water in the product) can be individually adjusted Adapt to the needs of the skin and the weather. This means you don't have to buy special winter and summer products, but you always have the right care at hand.

To do this, select the appropriate facial oil or shea cream and combine this product with the moisturizing facial serum .

It's very easy to use: First apply the facial serum to your skin, followed by the facial oil or shea cream, which you apply directly afterwards to the still damp skin. (You can also mix both products in the palm of your hand and apply them together, however you prefer.) The only difference in application compared to the warm season: While you used a lot more facial serum in the summer, more of the facial oil is now used , the ratio settles at around 50:50. But please combine in a way that feels good for your skin. There is no absolute drop amount recommendation, every skin is different. Try it out and find the balance for yourself.

For the sake of simplicity, here is an overview of the suitable products for skin care in autumn:

Choose one of these products:

For dry, mature or sensitive skin: FIVE facial oil regeneration .

We all know that water is a lubricant for processes in the body and that they simply run better when there is enough of it. Even if you can't directly plump up your skin with water and unsweetened tea, a generous intake of fluids supports the skin's cell functions. In addition to drinking enough water, you can support the skin with a healthy diet with lots of different vegetables, nuts and seeds, proteins from legumes and slow carbohydrates. Last but not least, the following skin care tips can help your skin get through the fall even better.

Facial massages for blood circulation

Facial massages are very popular in the cold season. They increase blood circulation in the skin, which ensures a better supply of nutrients from within. At the same time, care products can have a more intensive effect if they are applied in combination with a facial massage. Here you will find instructions for a detailed facial massage . Face masks against wrinkles

I always encourage you to use skin care products sparingly to avoid over-conditioned skin. Here's the exception: Sometimes when we look in the mirror, our skin shows us that it would like a little extra love. If small wrinkles appear that aren't otherwise there , it's time to treat your skin to a mask. If you're going through stressful periods or have had very little sleep, you're probably familiar with this. In these moments it helps to pamper the skin with a lot of care for a short time so that it can compensate for its deficit.

Here's how to do it: Make sure that your hair doesn't fall into your face, otherwise you'll have to wash your hair afterwards. Now apply plenty of facial serum to your freshly washed face, followed immediately by a generous portion of Shea Cream. Gently massage your face for at least two minutes and then let the treatment take effect for around 15 minutes . You can dab off the excess care with a facial tissue.
