If you want to care for your skin as naturally as possible, natural cosmetics in organic quality offer you additional advantages. Ecological ingredients elevate the product to the premier class of clean beauty. They use good things from nature in a particularly pure or, to put it better, unpolluted form. This makes them even more valuable than normal natural cosmetics, but they also have their price. Are they worth it? Let's find out!

What are the advantages of natural cosmetics in organic quality?

Cosmetics whose main ingredients come from organic farming are particularly gentle on your skin and nature. As the? The biggest advantages first:

    • Organic natural cosmetics are extra strong against oxidative stress.
    • It pollutes the environment less.
    • It makes a beastly good contribution to biodiversity.

You guessed it, this post will be a declaration of love for ecological products. And that is no accident. Organic is an integral part of FIVE's DNA . That was important to me from the start, because I grew up with it. Literally. On an organic farm. At a time when organic farmers were still considered freaks. My parents bred milk sheep in the Appenzellerland and were totally exotic at the time. But for them, dealing responsibly with nature was a matter of course.

And so it is only logical for us at FIVE that we take every ingredient that is organic if it is available. This is of course a bit more expensive and many people are therefore wondering what they get out of it at all . So today we bring more light into the eco corner. But first, let's clear up a common misunderstanding...

Are natural cosmetics not automatically organic?

Compared to conventional care products, natural cosmetics are much more natural and original. But even if cosmetics only contain ingredients from nature, that does not mean that they come from organic farming . After all, not all fruit in the fruit counter is organic. These are only the ones that are marked as such.

Products must earn the title “from organic farming”. This is done by doing without chemical-synthetic fertilizers, pesticides and other additives that harm people and nature.

☝️ So the benefit of organic ingredients isn't so much what's in it, but what they save you.

Organic is the more natural way of farming

In organic farming, too, the goal is to achieve the best possible, high-quality yield. And there, too, it is important to fend off stubborn pests that would otherwise destroy entire harvests. Organic farmers face the same problems as other farmers. However, they tend to use measures that increase yield naturally.

  • Regular rotation of crops in the fields ensures that cultivation does not draw nutrients from the soil one-sidedly. So he remains more fertile.
  • Hardy strains are less prone to pests than overbred strains that are only designed for gigantic yields.
  • Organic farming promotes beneficial insects such as bees, bumblebees and earthworms. They make an indispensable contribution to crops thriving and increase the quality of yields.

Organic increases biodiversity

Biodiversity is threatened by the extensive use of pesticides in conventional agriculture. So if we don't want to pollinate all the flowers by hand at some point, let's pay a little more attention to our bees and worms! This is why synthetic chemical pesticides and herbicides are taboo in organic farming. Only means that also occur in nature are permitted here.

Organic ensures less pollution

Fertilizers are also used in organic farming. However, their use is strictly regulated. The list of permitted fertilizers is only a fraction of that for conventional agriculture. On average, 28% less nitrogen gets into the soil on organically farmed land than with conventional cultivation. 1

This is important because too much nitrogen in the soil leads to high levels of nitrate pollution . They acidify the soil, which is deadly for many species. They also fuel the emission of greenhouse gases and get into the groundwater. The WDR explains the consequences of excessive nitrate pollution very well . 2

Organic cosmetics reduce oxidative stress on the skin

Opinions differ on whether organic fruit tastes better. After all, there is no arguing about taste. In any case, ecological quality in food and skin care offers two clear advantages :

    1. Organic ingredients have been shown to contain more antioxidants. 3
    2. are less contaminated with pesticides. 3

Pesticides are among the triggers of oxidative stress. And it increases all sorts of skin problems such as irritation and impurities. With organic cosmetics you can minimize the stress on your skin. At the same time, it is doubly effective against oxidation damage due to the high content of radical scavengers and the avoidance of stress factors . This has a positive effect on the complexion. Improved protection against oxidation counteracts impurities, irritation and premature skin aging . You can find out exactly how these interact under Antioxidants, free radicals and what they mean for your skin .

Why is organic more expensive?

Organic farming is expensive and often a challenge for those who operate it. Imagine that instead of destroying the weeds between the jojoba bushes with a spray gun filled with herbicide (and all the insects too), the weeds have to be painstakingly pulled out.

In addition, the additives approved for organic farming are less aggressive , but not as effective as many synthetic agents. Organic farmers do not fertilize excessively and they do without highly cultivated monocultures.

All of this means that organic farms produce less or require more land and more labor for the same amount of yield. Everything grows much more naturally here. This difference in effort is reflected in the price. In return, your skin benefits from the purity of the ingredients. This often goes hand in hand with particularly gentle processing, so that the maximum amount of nutrients is retained.

FIVE uses organic quality wherever possible
